When my sister told me that the blanket I had made her daughter was my niece's favourite, I have to admit I was a bit skeptical. Not that I think my sister is a liar or anything, but, you know, she's my sister and has familial obligations to be at least a little bit nice to me. So you can imagine my surprise when I asked my sister if I could photograph it and she told me that it was up on my niece's bed - she sleeps with it every night. That's pretty hard to fake.
This blanket has a very simple construction. It is mostly stockinette stitch with a garter stitch border and the letter "A" done in purl stitch in the center. I knit is using brown sheep cotton ease and US 7 bamboo circs.
It actually turned out very well considering that I ran out of yarn an inch from where I was supposed to cast off. I was reminded of this fact last night as I was counting the rows I had left to complete and calculating how many rows I could get out of each ball for the second blanket. That's when it hit me I would be short and that I had in fact been short on the first blanket, but too poor to get more yarn (yay grad school), just cast it off anyway. I didn't tell anyone, and no one mentioned it. Clearly, the missing rows didn't take away from anyone's enjoyment of the blanket. Holding the original up for scrutiny, I (the one who knew of its imperfection) couldn't tell it was lopsided. Phew. I wasn't looking forward to going through the rigmarole of finding the right yarn in the right colour with the proper dye lot or figuring out how to move the monogram down a few rows.
